5 ways to show yourself some love

The last week has been hard. For everybody.

That’s why we’re making sure that we’re showing ourselves a little more self-love than usual.

At the end of each day, whether you’re still heading to work or are now working from home, it’s super important to realise that you need to prioritise your mental health just as much as your physical body.

So, with that in mind – here are 5 ways to show yourself some love:

  • Pamper yourself: Whether it’s an hour-long bath with candles, taking the time to paint your nails or sitting down to start a new book, you deserve a pause in your day.

  • Clear your mind: The more that we’ve got going on, the more important it is to not just jump from one part of your day to the next. If you’re collecting kids from school straight after finishing work, then try and find five minutes when you get home to stop and take a big deep breath. Meditation gives you a structured method to clearing your mind so you can tackle the next job on your to-do list with the same level of energy as the first. Meditation apps like Headspace are perfect for beginners, with short options and introductory courses that run over 3-5 minute sessions each day.

  • Epicurean experiences: An ‘Epicurean’ is someone who is devoted to the pleasure they get from food and drink, and honestly, we’re pretty sure that fits everybody here at Bod Squad! Seriously though, there’s a reason we get such enjoyment from tasty food and maybe tonight is the night to splurge on the best ingredients and make the time to cook your favourite recipe.

  • Immerse yourself in nature: We live in a beautiful country, that’s a fact that can never be taken away from us. So go out there and enjoy it! There are mountains to climb, lakes to swim in, and beaches to walk along. Partners, kids, dogs and even your in-laws - the more, the merrier once you step outside your day to day environment!

  • Get your #sweat on: Even more than usual, we have a very good reason to exercise. Working out contributes to good health, which in turn helps us maintain sturdy immune systems. Making moves seems especially beneficial now, as people spend more time at home, far from the friends and family they usually see, and probably glued to the news. Exercise is well known for its mood-boosting abilities, and I know that so many of us could use a lift.
